Our Story

ClearList was built by founders with decades of experience taking companies public and a deep understanding of the private market challenges that come before it.

The Origin

How ClearList Came to Be

ClearList was founded by Ari Rubenstein and Patrick Murphy — two people who spent their careers at the center of public markets, and who kept noticing the same thing: the most interesting part of a company’s story was happening long before its IPO.

Ari Rubenstein is the Co-Founder and CEO of GTS, a leading multi-asset electronic market-making firm. After beginning his career on the floor of the New York commodities exchange in the mid-1990s and witnessing the modernization of financial markets firsthand, Rubenstein co-founded GTS in 2006 and helped build it into a leading global quantitative trading and liquidity provider.

Drawing on decades of experience in market structure, liquidity, and capital formation, Rubenstein later co-founded ClearList to address the growing demand for more efficient access to private market opportunities. ClearList was created to bring greater transparency, connectivity, and institutional infrastructure to the private securities ecosystem, leveraging the same market expertise and technology-driven approach that helped define GTS.

Patrick Murphy is Head of NYSE Market Making and Listing Services at GTS and a veteran market structure executive with more than two decades of experience across the public markets ecosystem. Beginning his career on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange in 1992, Murphy went on to hold senior leadership roles at Bear Stearns, JP Morgan, and Barclays, overseeing specialist, ETF, and Designated Market Maker operations before joining GTS through its acquisition of Barclays’ DMM business in 2016.

Having been involved in more than 500 IPOs throughout his career, Murphy witnessed firsthand how many of the world’s most transformational companies increasingly created value while still private — often remaining inaccessible to investors outside traditional venture capital networks. Drawing on his deep experience in market structure, liquidity, and capital formation, Murphy co-founded ClearList to help modernize private markets by expanding access, improving transparency, and creating more efficient infrastructure for private securities transactions.
